I legitimately thought he had a step on everyone else as far as offensive philosophy goes. Thought that combined with Saban's (at the time) inability to adjust the not getting to substitute on defense with the HUNH meant a lot of good things for us operating in the SEC West.

Until 2014 TAMU, I still believed that. That dream is kinda dead now.
The same thing wins that's always won: consistent execution by disciplined and talented athletes.

These gimmick offenses give a team that doesn't have consistent execution by disciplined and talented athletes an edge, but they are dependent upon two things:

1. having the right players - Manzel, Newton, Tebow, etc. - who don't grow on trees and every up and comer team like Auburn and aTm wants them because they make workable substitutes for good coaching and discipline. The chances of any program getting that type of player(s) every year are slim, so there goes your consistency as a team, guaranteeing this kind of up and down record.

2.their ability to confuse a defense. But that ability is diminished with every play, as the more they play, the more they show tendencies and more time the defense has to react and figure out how to stop it. This happened with the wishbone, the wildcat, the single wing, etc., and now it's happening with the HUNH.
