Are we due for another Auburn fan draft soon?

damn good recruiter.
That was the argument that made the least sense to me. I don't think LSU needs great recruiters in the same way that programs like Auburn, USC, Arkansas, and Tennessee do. For most of their positions, they can just skim off the cream of local talent. Losing an occasional player to Bama or Auburn or TAMU doesn't change the fact that LSU has a pretty easy recruiting footprint with loads of talent.

Maybe doesn't make sense for LSU but it's a big reason we are 'butthurt'.

We have our LA recruiters, now we have a guy we can seriously battle some AL kids with AU/Bama on which we simply havent before. Not to mention dipping even more into Florida and Georgia. If Alabama/Saban has taught you anything, it's stockpiling talent doesnt hurt one bit.

Yeah. I understand it from your perspective. It's a painful loss. I just don't understand LSU fans crowing about getting a great recruiter.

Well, if we're being honest, he is a good recruiter. And lsu fans are always crowing about one thing or another. So, what's not to understand. It's just what they do.

I was thinking this as well. It doesn't hurt to ever bring in great recruiters but LSU is already close to as good as it gets in terms of recruiting. That hasn't been their problem the last few years.

maybe he learns Louisiana recruiting and then when he returns home and rapes the state

Craig will help with QBs and that's an area we need help with. Craig coached Christian Ponder & E.J. Manuel at FSU and landed Winston (teaching him for a year) as well.
Craig recruits AL, GA and FL which are all areas we could use help with, especially AL and GA. We simply dont really compete for those kids at the moment. We can ALWAYS get better recruiting as Bama is always just a step ahead there (hence #1 class after #1 class). So on top of being a very good QB coach, an elite recruiter in an area we need help with; understand he's replacing a guy who couldnt even coach the WRs well this season and landed essentially no one in recruiting. This is a BIG upgrade.

Which is true. Any improvement is better than no improvement even if you don't have a lot of room to improve. And thunderbird makes a decent point too. I'm not sure how decent because I can't see LSU pulling that many Alabama kids when there are already two major in-state programs and a far smaller pool of talent, but it's worth acknowledging.

Sure, but you are not losing to Bama because of the talent gap.

Actually that's been a major issue recently. We have lost depth badly on the DL and LB, Bama meanwhile is 3 deep at each position. They certainly have had a major depth advantages in obvious spots the last couple years. It's not about just the starters you trot out there, it's about the guys rotating in to replace them too. Also, once again, Craig helps coach QBs, something I think we can all agree LSU could use help with. He coached 3 great QBs at FSU.

To be fair no one is going to be equal to Bama in the talent department especially when looking at the lines. It will be interesting to see how Les uses him, it appears that most Auburn fans agree he shouldn't be coaching wrs but instead QBs.

I cant speak to what capacity he even had at Auburn coaching QBs with Lashlee and Malzahn there (being WRs coach in name), but Auburn got great production from the QB spot 2/3 years he was there.
He directly coached Christian Ponder 1 year at FSU, E.J. Manuel 3 years at FSU and Jameis Winston 1 year at FSU.
So I'd say he has a pretty damn good track record, including or not including his time at Auburn.
