Easy answer: Because they sucked at football while OU under Switzer was equivalent to the Pete Carroll USC teams. OU was always among the top two or three teams in the country and was a perennial national championship contender led by a charismatic and very likeable coach. Why would any top recruit pick Ole Miss or Mississippi State over those guys?

I'm speaking specifically on the Mississippi schools. Of course the top teams in the country will be in play. But why USM over Ole Miss/Mississippi State. Seems both MSU and OM would be in bigger play than USM.

Bobby Collins was at USM. He continued the stuff Ron Meyer started at SMU resulting in the death penalty. USM had a pretty good qb by the name of Reggie Collier. I am sure he was talking to Marcus.

Because his pimp had a grudge against state and ole miss types. I also think he lived just outside of Hattiesburg and he was going to get his his no matter who came along or where he went. This is going off old timers speaking from years back. *Differ to Diamondawg on this one.

Even though OU was Big Eight, they might get as well have been a SWC school on the level of cheating.
