Past champions have the following: Spurs have the best power forward of all time, a point guard that's one of the best and probably he best all around player in the league.

Spurs are an example of what great coaching and the best management and basketball can produce.

The heat have Lebron, bosh AND D wade

"had" and Spoelstra is a great coach. The Heat are still a playoff team with an old Wade, Bosh and a bunch of role players

Lakers have Kobe, Gasoline and some with Shaq

what have they won without Phil Jackson?

Lakers/Celtics in the 80's had the greatest players and rosters of all time

the Lakers also had Pat Riley

Yes. Basketball is hard to coach

Players matter obviously and most coaches at the top level are good enough that the players are going to make more of a difference than the coaching

But if you pick a coach that is a clown he can ruin a team or program. Watch LSU with that talent. If they don't make the tourney that's a prime example

Rarely do you see a coach like bo Ryan who consistently out perform his talent and beat other top coaches

You realize you can just reverse it and say that the players made the coach better? Those players and having a guy as respected as those 3 coaches are is kind of what I was getting at. Basketball in a nutshell = give it to your best player. Let him score. We have a 7 footer who is dominant? "Hey you, give the ball to him." Just basic stuff. Maybe I should sub in player X for y, bevayse X looks tired or isn't shooting good. If I was Phil Jackson, I would have kicked my feet up and watched the show.
