It's embarrassing sometimes but on the other hand it's free entertainment, LOL.

I'm going to be completely honest about Solomon. This doesn't seem to be popular with about two or three people in here, but that recruitment is going to get nasty. And Bama will be among that as well, I'm sure. I believe that our staff honestly believes he's a lean to us right now. And I believe that he actually is. But what goes on in his and Marvin Wilson's recruitment likely won't be for the faint of heart or the people who like to bury their head in the sand. So I think it's wildly unpredictable coming down the stretch.

The only safe bet on Solomon is that he suddenly adds the Barn to his top 5 at some point in the next couple weeks and finds some time to visit them (even if during the week). I'd be utterly shocked if that doesn't happen. From a couple people that get good information, we've been as worried or more about them coming into the picture than anybody. I think the Derrick Brown recruitment (and similar AU DL nabs in Ga. over the years) was a bit of shock and awe.

True. I'd imagine we get more (and we've gotten several over the years) from the Maryland/Va./DC area, though. And those guys seem to have a high hit percentage in my observations. That area has been really good to us, FSU, OSU, etc. South FL has too, especially with skill position guys.

I guess Key takes over down there with his FL ties unless whoever we hire as the 10th assistant with the new rules becomes the guy.

Part of me wishes we'd hire a kicking guru as the 10th assistant. ANYBODY who can help with Special Teams should get paid a king's ransom by Saban. But if they could also recruit South FL, that would be a bonus.

I think the undersold part of Cristobal's recruiting is NJ/PA.

Didn't land everyone, but got Bama's foot in the door on a lot of guys...

Looks like grades were the reason we moved away from Tyler Shelvin:

quote:

The bad news is that from an academic standpoint there are still some hurdles that he must overcome the second half of the year with correspondence courses being a route he is already going to replace some classes. It’s going to be very close as far as qualifying academically and will likely even go into the summer.

From the LSU 247 site regarding Chris Allen:

quote:

One source said that something that was viewed at as a major strength at Alabama was the stability of the coaching staff and right now that has Allen and his family a little worried. LSU’s stability, on the other hand, is something that has grabbed the family’s attention and they feel that Aranda is the best DC in the country. LSU has Allen and the family’s attention more after last night.

So we lost our TE coach and that is causing an OLB to believe there is coaching instability on our staff?

Oh LSixU, how quickly you forget your high road morals when it comes to recruiting. I'm sure Chris Allen, who wasn't even being recruited by Cristobal BTW, just came to that conclusion on his own, huh?

But, but, but only Alabama uses negative recruiting tactics!!!!

I'm sure Chris Allen would love to read shite like this from the LSixU fan base too:

quote:

If Allen flips from Bama it won't even be a blip on their radar. He's not going to be a difference maker there period. He could here. He could be part of the team that dethroned Saban.

I mean, what kid wouldn't like to be told "You aren't good enough to play for the best program in the country, but if you come to our school you can dethrone them?"

Just realized that there are only 2 players left from Bama's number 1 ranked 2013 recruiting class. Averett and Falkins.

Rob Foster and Brad Bozeman are also in this class.

Foster is likely gone and it wouldn't surprise me if Falkins isn't on the roster next season.

That would still leave only 2: Averett and Bozeman.

The more I think about it, the more ridiculous the stability argument is for lsu. They just fired a coach that averaged 9-10 wins per year for one that got canned by om for not winning anything. If the 0 experiment goes how many think it will, he may be gone before Allen graduates

Predicting where the top 11 uncommitted 2017 college football recruits will sign
Alex Kirshner | Jan 12, 2017
quote:

National Signing Day is approaching quickly. Some college football prospects have already enrolled at their new schools for the spring semester, and the 2017 players who haven’t, can put pen to paper for next fall on Feb. 1.

We’ve reached the point where the vast majority of the country’s top 2017 prospects are already verbally committed to some school or another. Most of those commitments will stick, though not all will. This post is a rundown of the 11 highest-rated prospects who don’t have a current verbal commitment to any school.

The players featured here are ordered by their ratings on the 247Sports Composite, which aggregates industry player evaluations. SB Nation Recruiting’s Bud Elliott (@SBNRecruiting) weighs in, as well.

Aubrey Solomon, 5-star DT, Lee (Ga.) County

Solomon is a former Michigan commitment, but he decommitted in August, leading to this headline: “A four-star tackle says he decommitted from Michigan because they sent a thank-you card for an event he didn't attend and also spelled his name wrong.” He’s been a late riser in recruiting rankings, going from highly rated to really highly rated. Alabama, Georgia, and former home Michigan are highly involved.

Bud’s take: I have no idea where he will go. Solomon told me during the Army All-American Bowl week that Alabama leads, but he has changed his visit plans around several times. Michigan and Georgia do not think they are out of this race, despite his unflattering comments about the Wolverines. The official visits will be extremely important to follow here, because as of a week ago, he did not know if he would use his final two (he has already officialed to Michigan and Alabama, and visits USC this weekend).

LaBryan Ray, 4-star DE, James Clemens (Ala.)

Ray is a listed 6’4 and 260 pounds, and his mix of oomph and quickness makes him a moldable and attractive prospect for everybody. He could project as a three- or five-technique. Ray’s been dealing with a torn labrum but expects to have that fixed up soon enough. He’s taken or expects to take visits to Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Bud’s intel: Ray has two teammates committed to the Tide in corner Kyriq McDonald and tackle Kendall Randolph. Alabama has far more stability than any of his other contenders, and pumps out top picks at his position. I don’t believe he will say no to Alabama.

Devon Hunter, 4-star S, Indian River (Va.)

Hunter is a great athlete and a hard hitter, and he’s starred as both a defensive back and running back in high school. It seems like his collegiate future is at safety. Hunter announced he’ll name his destination on Jan. 20, choosing from a group of Alabama, Florida, Virginia Tech, Auburn, North Carolina, and Ole Miss. He’ll thrive wherever he goes, but he seems like a good fit in a defense that often deploys its safeties near the line of scrimmage. Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster loves doing that.

Bud’s intel: While he did not say he was committing to Virginia Tech, Hunter was saying positive things about the Hokies to other recruits during Army All-American Week.. And he loves Bud Foster’s defense.

Devonta Smith, 4-star WR, Amite (La.)

Smith is another speedster, but he’s more than that. Watch him work at The Opening, where we thought he performed excellently.

He’s got great leaping ability, great hands, and great speed. There’s no reason he can’t be a star at the next level. Alabama, Miami, and LSU seem well-positioned.

Bud’s take: It is hard to discount his camp’s connection to Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. The feeling from Alabama people is similar to the one they had with Shyheim Carter’s camp last year, who lived just 20 minutes away from Smith. (Alabama signed Carter).

National Signing Day 2017's 7 most important teams: Can anybody break Bama's streak?
Bud Elliot | Jan 13, 2017
quote:

With the football season in the books, it is time to turn our attention to recruiting. National Signing Day is Wednesday, Feb. 1. Here is a look at the top classes in the nation, and what might happen going forward.

Alabama will probably sign the No. 1 class for the seventh consecutive year, and maybe its best ever.

Alabama’s class has 26 current commitments, including four five-stars and 17 four-stars; a ridiculous 81 percent of the class is comprised of blue-chip prospects. Najee Harris, of California, is the nation’s No. 1 running back. Dylan Moses, of Baton Rouge, is the No. 1 linebacker. The Tide also added the No. 1 JUCO offensive lineman in Elliot Baker, and the No. 1 JUCO defensive lineman in Isaiah Buggs.

And it could get even better. Alabama is the leader for Georgia five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon. It is in a good position for four-star Alabama prospects like wide receiver Henry Ruggs and LaBryan Ray. The Tide are also still in it for four-star Louisiana prospects like Devonta Smith, Todd Harris, and Phidarian Mathis. And the Tide are still considered the top contender for four-star defensive end Jarez Parks out of Florida.

Plus, the Tide are still contending for Virginia four-star safety Devon Hunter, and Alabama four-star receiver Nico Collins.

This is just getting silly. Alabama is having to slow play, or flat out deny spots to players who would otherwise be the best recruit for many other schools.

With almost any combination of five or six of the above-mentioned prospects committing to the Tide, Alabama would finish with 320+ points on the 247Sports Composite scale, which no team has done since the Florida Gators in 2010.

Completely forgot about Bozeman.

I think Bozeman was originally going to greyshirt, but when Paige didn't get medically qualified, he got the spot.

I guess someone forgot to tell him that L6U just fired their winningest coach ever and hired a DL coach to be their HC.

From the looks of it, our EEs are loving it in Tuscaloosa. Tua, Najee, Jerry, Alex, and Dylan are always hanging out and having a good time. Saban and Tosh took them out to his lake house today. Looks like Najee got to drive the boat
