Most of it still revolves around the fact that Cam's story at Auburn came out in a time where the media was adjusting to the shift in a paradigm. That story would never be handled the way it was then, today. Most people wouldn't have the ignorant opinions of Cam otherwise.

What we know about Cam...

1) He is immensely gifted. He has more raw physical talent than the NFL has ever seen at the QB position.

2) From the moment he entered the league he has given defenses problems. All the talk about him just now figuring things out is crazy. He was rookie of the year, has been a Pro bowler, etc...Carolina aka Shula miss used Cam's talent for much of his first few years. It was only last season when things were going bad and jobs were on the line that Shula unleashed Cam. The results are obvious.

3) Cam isn't perfect but seems to be pretty genuine toward people, especially children. At Auburn his teammates loved him, outside of a few divas who left Carolina the same is true. He has given of himself to the community both in Auburn and at Carolina. I love that when he started getting credit for giving the balls to kids after doing it without fanfare for some time he and the team decided to let everyone give the balls out to take the spotlight off him.

4) He is confident and exuberant. Show me a champion that isn't confident. Show me a single example of his exuberance crossing the line of what is accepted throughout the NFL.

5) He can't win...Peyton Manning says something about credit going to his Defense and people applaud him likely because he looks like Opie. Cam gives credit to his team and it is fake and staged likely because he doesn't look like Opie.

Yes, it would or be worse.
