I don't see what letting us into Texas recruiting territory and an easy win has to do with money. But thanks.
So you're saying y'all were going to get the SEC Network at the same time regardless of expansion?

The article itself says that the SEC paid ~$28M for postseason events.
Paid $28M for postseason events. I would assume that is just the expenses. With ticket sales, etc., there is revenue. I would assume there is a good bit of revenue that comes in from the Football Championship Game and the Men's Basketball Tournament, Baseball Tournament, etc.
My guess is the revenue falls short of the expenses when you count all sports, but I would guess they lose no more than $5M or so on postseason events.

In addition to that, they probably have to pay for advertisements, payroll taxes, insurance?, legal fees, etc
Sure there is some of this. But there are only 30 or so employees at the SEC office. Payroll taxes and insurance are certainly an expense, but its a drop in the bucket compared to the $50M - $60M we're trying to account for.
As for advertisements... yes, the SEC runs ads. But they also get PAID by Regions, Golden Flake, etc. to let them advertise at events.
I would still like to know how much the SEC puts away each year and what that figure is. I've heard its unreal.

overhead. paying salaries, refs, advertising. I imagine you could ask for their financial statements through a freedom of information act.

This is known as "The Texas A&M Effect"

Because the SEC is not a public entity, they would laugh at a FOIA request.

So that leaves $71.6 million for the SEC to do what with?
Damn, you just exposed the source of the REC's slush fund.

No wonder why these chumps don't want to pay their players. I guess I wouldn't want them getting a cut of my money either.

Thanks for the money guys.
Vandy will take that money and not spend any of it on improving the worst stadium in the SEC unfortunately

It's cool that yall also agreed to be irrelevant on top of giving us all this money. Thanks Aggies.
Y'all can't take credit for that dammit! We were irrelevant long before the SEC came along!

Should be a solid down payment on a new basketball arena.

I hope everyone understands the difference between "revenue" and "profit." Revenue is simply the money taken in before expenses and capital.
Lets assume the $71 million difference between the "revenue" and what was distributed was cost of doing business. SEC network surely has expenses from advertising to salary for the staff...someone has to pay Finebaum you know. The SEC staff has salaries and operating expenses as well as some capital for facilities, etc.
But if I had a business that returned >$500 million in revenue for only $70 million in expenses, I would be accused of dealing drugs.
