I understand. I've actually been a mayor (of an Alabama municipality smaller than many B'ham neighborhoods) and gone the tax abatement route for both retail and industrial development. I'm willing to forego money I wasn't getting anyhow to draw entities that pay dividends down the road but straight out cash money is a line I just would not (and did not) cross. Just a difference in political perspective.

Nice to have an actual discussion where we just agree to disagree.

I do see your point from a political and philosophical point.

I guess my point would be that the voter's ultimately reject or endorse the spending each election cycle.
