Jeez, based on my limited experiences in Knoxville with an SO who went to Bearden and fmaily is in Farragut, I'd no idea there were even "bad areas" in Knoxville.

Knoxville is a pretty big city - just under a million metro (yes, that includes the outskirts like Blount county, but then so does Atlanta's 6 million or bham's 1 million plus)

In fact, I think Knoxville is Tennessee's 3rd largest metro area - 1. Nashville 2 Memphis 3. Knoxville 4. Chattanooga 5. Jackson

NOBODY is surprised by the bad areas of Chattanooga... Knoxville is at least twice as big as Chattanooga.

Yeah, city limits Knoxville and city limits Chattanooga are very comparable. I think Knoxville may have roughly 10kish more people than Chatt, but Knox County is considerably larger than Hamilton County and the Knox Metro is much larger than the Chatt metro.

However, the demographic breakdown is very different between the 2 cities. I think that's why people aren't as surprised by Chatt having more gang problems than Knoxville. Just my 2 cents
