It's really less about your performance and more about who else has a good season that year. Ingram didn't have the greatest Heisman numbers ever (but they were far from the worst), but he played in a season where nobody else really stepped up to take it. Both Henry and McCaffrey had seasons good enough to win it in most years, but unfortunately they came in the same year.
