I was excited about getting Fran, true.

But we know Herman can succeed at a high level with his offense. In his three years at OSU, his squads finished #21, #3, and #5 in scoring offense. The year before he arrived, they were #81.

This year's Houston team was #13, after coming in at #57 last year.

He can handle the offense. Or he knows enough to be able to hand it off to someone who will make it hum. If he retained Chavis, and there's no reason why he wouldn't, we would be set.

Plus, it would be hard to find someone with better ties to Texas for recruiting, particularly in the Houston area. He's been a coach at some level in Texas for 12 of his 17 years, with stops at UTx, Rice, Sam Houston, and of course, Coog High.

If Sumlin doesn't REALLY right the ship next year, Herman is my first choice.

(I would have pulled for Chad Morris, but I don't think he's going to be able to turn around SMU fast enough to justify hiring him.)
