Isn't there a 2 year waiting period to transfer to another SEC school if AU doesn't wave it?

Yes, if he isn't released, and no school in their right mind should release him, he will have to sit 2 years.

No, he's still under the NCAA 1 year sit policy. If he transfers at the end of December, he has to sit out next season no matter which FBS school he went to. He would be eligible to participate with team activities in the spring of '17. He could go JUCO and play a year too.
I believe he redshirted this year. So he'll sit out next year and have 3 to play 3 left.
