Was Muschamp a year away at Florida?

Look at Sabans first four years at Michigan State, and then look at his 5th year.
Do you think if Muschamp had one more year, Florida would have looked like a much different team? I mean Florida went from 4-8 to 7-5 and now 10-3 currently under McElwain and played in the SECCG.

I'd think he'd probably done as good of a job as McElwain has done this year, Will Grier was the sole difference to that squad. It would've been interesting to find out how he would've done with that group.

Well it's like tanner said today. There's two coaches in the playoff right now one that had a 28-21 record after 4years and one that had a worse record than that. Remember these our booms players comeback and talk to me again about UF in 3yrs

An argument could be made that Boom was one season away.
Also, it was the loss to us, (remember the two blocked kicks and that might explain some of the special teams questions today), that cost Muschamp a shot at another year.

This issue is not the "what if" but "what will" in the modern day of SEC football. If Miles and Richt have taught us anything this year is how crazy only 9 wins in the regular season matter in this conference.
The issue is how long the clock will run on Boom.
EOY 0 = He has not even started and his seat is already warm
EOY 1 = 6-6 and he should still have a job
EOY 2 = 6-6 and his seat will be warm
EOY 3 = 6-6 and his seat will be on fire
EOY 4 = 8-4 and his seat could be just as hot, if not hotter
EOY 5 = 10-2 and he could be looking for a job
The question is not how good a coach he "might" be but how long he will have to cool his seat over time. I am trying to remember any 10 win seasons prior to the 80's yet now the SEC is in a feeding frenzy where even 10 wins a season is not job security.
Boom will need time, but will he get it? Especially when the coaching cycles favors the guys in their 60's who will be depleted in the next generation. I try and imagine if some of the greatest coaches of my youth would even have a job in the modern systems geared more toward a single season than a real multi generational dynasty.

I really think Muschamp was possibly a year away at UF. He was the scapegoat but fans dont realize 2013 was an unmitigated disaster because of all the injuries...we were down to our third string QB when we played you guys and only had 59 players get on the plane to Columbia...including 4 walk ons who played special teams. NO SEC TEAM can play 3rd string qbs and look good....especially our 3rd string that year..but we made a game of it only falling in late 3rd qt. Our next game was Ga Southern and fans dont have a clue, we had a walk on start at LB, a true frosh who had only played some snaps on special teams and we had the 3rd string QB. We were decimated by season ending injuries but it made the fans believe 4-8 was the fault of Muschamp. In 2014 we didnt do well and some of it is plain offensive coordinator related. Boom's fault was never hiring the right OC. Even then in 2014 were a dropped pass in endzone from beating LSU and two special teams blunders against you guys in the last 5 minutes from being a 9 win team at least. Bama & Mizzou were our worse games.
I liked Muschamp and he did settle down on the sidelines after his first two years. He cleaned out the locker room after Meyers mess....and it was a mess.

UF has had bad luck with QB's. Had high-rated guys like Driskel and Brissett wash out. Then when it looked like Grier was going to work out, ya know .... and once he was gone, it seemed like the Gator O got worse by the week.
But the fact they were able to win the East says a couple of things: (a) The division is not that strong, and USC should be able to compete year-over-year, (b) a stout D gives you a chance to win, and Muschamp recruited and built one down there.
