Most Auburn fans had Gus as a 3rd choice. When he was hired, I did not know many folks that were excited about a 1 year coach from Arkie State. After year one and the SEC championship, we ALL drank the kool aid.

I think Avery was Alabama's third or fourth choice. He has never coached college before.

Definitely the 2nd choice behind Gregg Marshall, but possibly 3rd choice (doubt he was 4th choice).

Correct, but he's coached successfully at the highest level. The only concern for him at the college level is not Xs & Os, but recruiting. He's killing it there:

Probably was but don't care. Correct, but has coached in the NBA and has strong ties to the AAU circuit and should be able to get bargain basement prices for prized recruits.
