He is around the age that a new drug. Tetracycline was used as medicine for the young. One side effect is that in the young it stains the teeth. Not saying that's the case but could be a cause.

Another side effect is extreme light sensitivity. I know we've all seen that picture of him looking like a lobster.

This could very well be why as I know a few people that this happened too and with far worse stains than he has but perfectly healthy teeth.
