Not to hijack the thread, but this is bullshite revisionist history. If we were going to fire him for not beating Alabama, we sure as hell would not have waited 18 years until he was 2-14 against them. He got fired because not only did he keep losing to Alabama, but he also started losing to Mississippi State, Kentucky, and others. His last six years' records were

5-5-1 (losses to Texas A&M, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi St., tie to Rice)*
4-7 (losses to Nebraska, Texas A&M, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama, Mississippi State)**
6-4-1 (Losses to Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi State, tie to Nebraska)***
8-4 (Losses to Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Stanford)
