Auburn is still playing hard and this team doesn't exhibit the Chizik levels of quit in them. Problem is despite what their posters say they are not particularly talented relative to Bama, LSU, Ole Miss, and UGA and Malzhan hasn't been able to dial up a game plan to maximize what personnel he does have. Lack of execution in the game is killing him as well. Boom is trying hard but doesn't have the horses right now. Defense looked a LOT better with Lawson back.
2017 is the year AU will have to decide whether they want to stay on the Gus Bus. To fire him now is just unthinkable and its a terrible time to be looking for a coach with so many high profile jobs open. I think they will have another average year next year but then the buy-out is less than half.
