Van Poppel signed for 900K more than Chipper Jones (the #1 pick that year). Including signing bonus, Van Poppel made 9 million in his career. Pretty good for a journey man reliever drafted in '90. Given the bust rate for high school pitchers, it's pretty hard to fault him for using his leverage to maximize his signing bonus. Given hindsight of how his career actually played out, it's impossible to say he made the wrong move. Braves we're looking to low-ball a high school kid and did. They got lucky in that they drafted a hall of famer.

Yep, he could have been part of a HOF staff, and I say that not even liking the Braves.
