What in the hell do you think is irrelevant about a black man being lynched by white supremacists?

It happened in the 90s. It's a terrible, terrible thing, no doubt. Still not relevant since the rebel flag in this context =/= white supremacy.

I got BAD news for you, Chief, the n!zzers is off the plantation now, and their opinions matter

Why are you insinuating that I'm a racist?

quote:

It's real cute, a whole bunch of white boys sitting around wasting time on their computers talking about why they don't think a symbol is terrible. Meanwhile they don't give a shite about the people the symbols actually affect.

Well, probably because their social activists have been overrun by people who are indeed racist. Forgive me, it's hard to take some of it seriously when you have people raising a stink because a dean of a school accidentally says "All lives matter" instead of "Black lives matter".

Powerful imagery you provided there though.

Why is it so fricking hard to come up with a flag that everyone likes?

Again, that's not particularly relevant to this discussion.

That statement is blatantly false, and no amount of you saying otherwise will make it so.

Because you think this:
quote:

the rebel flag in this context =/= white supremacy

That symbol stands for white supremacy and oppression for 40% of the residents of Mississippi. You seem to think that 40% is irrelevant.
quote:

a dean of a school accidentally says "All lives matter" instead of "Black lives matter".

Now YOU'RE dabbling in irrelevancy.

Really?

Try reading the thread title:

Ole Miss student senate votes to remove state flag.

If the state had a non-controversial flag, such as the one Louisiana proudly files, the students at the State University would not have taken a vote. Is that really hard for you to understand?

Mississippi has a flag with a symbol of racial oppression to 40% of the state's population.

The students at the University of Mississippi vote not to fly the flag due to the symbol of oppression.

If Mississippi had a flag with no symbol of oppression for a large minority of the population, they would not have had to have the vote.
