You could put up a couple of foot bridges there.
You could also put several speed bumps in that stretch, like in a mall parking lot, to slow down the traffic. Might still be a few pedestrians hit, but a car going 10 mph instead of 30 mph would likely reduce fatalities.

I'm pretty sure the speed limit is 40 or 45 on university. Why on earth would you put speed bumps on a 4 lane street?

Speed bumps on a six lane road would be a nightmare and people wouldn't use the pedestrian ramps.

The only thing I can think of that might work to everyone's benefit is closing the street down between Wellborn and College Main on gameday. The traffic issue though, ooof. The traffic through the backstreets would get pretty bad.

At least you would get some outdoor activity on the closed street between the bars and campus as a side benefit but there is no easy answer with this one.

What we obviously need to do is close down north gate. No alcohol means no reason to cross, or opportunity to be drunk. If it saves one life, it's worth it. It would even be cheap, just pass an ordinance and close the bars. Some bar owners might lose money, but what's a little money if we save a life, right guys?
