Have you ever considered that this decision was actually made for the benefit of Sakerlina's program and not for himself?

I tried making that point but I think he's completely unwilling to entertain that thought.

I'm sure, in hindsight, that Spurrier wishes he had left at the end of the 2014 season. He realizes now he should have. So, now realizing that, he's supposed to hang around for 6 more games because of commitments made to players and because hanging around would somehow be better for the program?

I guess he could have announced he was leaving at year's end now and let the coaching search begin. Then he'd be a lame duck. Is that somehow better? Either way, he'd be leaving.

The real question is why some non-Carolina fans burn so much energy getting their panties in a wad about it.

Leaving today benefits the program. Recruiting has started earlier and earlie every yearr, and right now is a key time. By hanging around and being a lame duck, he's hurting the program. Anyone he does recruit might flip when he leaves at the end of the year too. This lets USCe start the coaching search early before there's a ton of competition at the end of the year and to start moving on.

This was done out of respect and the right thing to do. This is far different from a coach jumping ship and leaving his team for a better job, getting fired, etc.

My $0.02 at lest.
