Truer words were never spoken. When Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas he used to refer to Frank Broyles (former Arkansas head coach and AD) as the most powerful man in the state. And he wasn't kidding.

Exactly!

No way an Alabama governor would have ever crossed Bear publicly. That would be political suicide.

Bear was the only man in Alabama that was loved more than George Wallace.

If any young Gumps actually put Saban over Bryant...I'm surprised the population hasn't had them sterilized and destroyed.

Bryant was greatness on a level Saban will never know. BB could kick your dick in the dirt for 60 minutes, then walk over and invite you to his house for supper (or at least a bag of GF chips) and remember EVERY ONE of your kids' names and ages.
He loved Alabama, and never forgot aTm.

He was the southern gent you couldn't hate, no matter how hard you tried. Taking an arse-whipping from him was just part of being an LSU fan, and we lost one of our greatest coaches ever cuz some high-powered alums got greedy.

Saban is a hired assassin, nothing more. No love for anyone but football and himself. and $.

Take it from an Old Man that was actually alive and met the Bear. He was criticized but the media pretty much controlled everything back in the day. Now, during Saban's tenure there are so many ways to publicly criticize a coach and bypass the media. No way to hide it.
