Does the NCAA not test for roids?

I never hear about any college player getting suspended for roids. Does the NCAA test for them? I find it hard to believe there's not a lot of college players using roids.

This is what I'd like to know. Who made Grier take a test?

Some think that was what Robbie Green was suspended for. Maybe the whole season is the clue.

I know years ago at a division 2 level, there were 2 or 3 football players randomly tested each week in season. For other sports, I think they had the right to test, but in practice only tested at NCAA post season tournaments. A good number of athletes took roids and were never tested or caught.

The NCAA has random drug testing. That's the test Grier failed.

UK lost Jeremy Jarmon for him using an GNC OTC supplement that was non-NCAA approved.
The reason you don't hear about it very often is steroids/PEDs have developed at such a fast rate testing can't keep up. Usually guys get popped for something that could be a masking agent like an OTC supplement.
And the NCAA themselves only tests a couple times a season. Schools control the testing for weed/alcohol. That's why schools have varying punishments for that.

Pretty sure most of them are, at least at the "power" positions like DT, LB, etc. Some skill position players too. You gonna tell me Eddie Lacey (bammer RB) wasn't on the juice? His guns were bigger than most pro bodybuilders.
And I am not just picking on bammer. I am sure it happens at most every major football factory school. I don't know how they get away with it (maybe they use drugs not on the tests), but I am positive they do it.

If I thought any of Bama's recent RBs were juicing it would have been TR, not Lacy.

The biggest "guns" were Upshaw's. He was a freak.

How Brian Cushing was able to avoid getting busted I'll never know.

IRC the NCAA randomly tests a handful of players on each team twice a year, one test that is scheduled before the season and then one un-announced test during the season. they also test for at least baseball and basketball before the postseason (LSU had a baseball player suspended in the post season for testing positive for either adderall or weed). everyone isn't tested. looks like Grier was one of the handful players chosen on the un-announced test and got popped
ETA: but yes, i feel like many more players can get away juicing in college than they can in the NFL

Brian Cushing was the posterchild for roids while at USC and wasn't ever touched. He gained something like 50 pounds in a year.

thats what i said when i heard.
I can't name 2 players that have failed an NCAA PED test, and thats including the Will Grier.

And honestly, even Olympics has struggled to stay ahead of steroids/HGH developments with their testing (it's why they backlog samples until better tests). It shouldn't be too shocking that the NCAA misses on kids who are positive.

Brian Cushing had Pete the Cheat Carroll covering for him. That's the thing with a lot of these great coaches. Belichick is a great coach without cheating. So why do it? All that can come from it is negative press.
