Where are you in SC? I'm in Cola and pretty happy to live at a relatively high elevation compared to the surrounding area. They're calling for 12'' to 18''.

I get what you're saying but the further east the storm the less overall impact I would expect it to have....but I'm by no means a meteorologist so don't really know what the hell in talking about. Also the weather folks always seem to overshoot when they get all excited.

Edit: It looks like central SC estimates are now down to less than 10''. Still a ton but not as much as earlier predicted.

I'm in Greenville and you're in the bullseye for this event. You might want to tune into your local stations to get a feel for what's going on. They might be overshooting it, they might not...but FWIW, these estimated amounts have been in the models for at least 24 hours now, and they haven't changed much. Now that we're getting closer, meteorologists are getting comfortable releasing numbers. State of emergency, flood watch, all that good stuff.

It could be a total miss, but that's not the likely scenario at this point. If you're staying home, just make sure you've taken care of whatever you might need to over the next few days. I'm going to the game Saturday but plan to drive back to Greenville after the game...I'm also packing a bag in case I gotta stay at a hotel, because I'm not convinced I'll be able to get home Saturday night. Did ya hear a woman died in a flood in Spartanburg last night? Just a pop-up shower, but the ground is soaking wet and can't take anymore water.

To put this into perspective...You average 44" of rain each year. 10" is almost 25% of the rain that you receive all year long. The most rain that has ever fallen in the state of SC in one day was 17". 10" is a ton of rain and will act like more than 10" with how saturated the ground is. Hurricane Katrina brought 10" to New Orleans. Not comparing this to Katrina though, because you're not dealing with the winds, storm surge, or levees...but the rain amount could be the same.

If you get 10" of rain Friday/Saturday, there will be widespread flooding, houses underwater, and major roads will break apart and wash away. Power outages for days. It's a big deal. It might not be 10", but if that happens, it'll be catastrophic.
