We are entering the era of fast football. Where big/strong players are not used as much. Where power running will be a thing of the past. No longer will those big physical atheletes have a sport to play except wrestling or weight lifting competitions.

Now it's all about who has the fastest players and who has the most luck with trick plays. They are taking physicality out of football with all of the new rules. Defensive players are now handicapped and defensive schemes are no longer effective or useful. Everyone just recruits offense now.

I hate where football is going. Its reminding more and more of basketball and its starting to adopt the playoff system. Next thing you know, there will be a 64 team playoff in football and the regular season wont matter. It will just be a bloated mess.

Look back to this post in 20 years and you will realize I was right and will be seeking answers.

This is the second or third time this has happened. Miami Nebraska game back in the 80s kicked off the speed movement.

NOT the first time and not something new.

Just because Bama lost to Ole Miss does not mean college football has just changed vectors. It usually comes back to a solid defense and the ability to run the ball. If not, Oregon would have won multiple NCs. They have not.

It's getting more like college basketball where in-game coaching and strategics is more heavily weighted than before, and one playmaker, especially a dual-threat quarterback, can make you go from a mediocre team to a playoff contender.

Big O-linemen are not effective if they aren't athletic. Same with D-linemen. In-fact, you'd almost prefer smaller-quicker than big/immobile space-eater.

The game can now be won away from the line-of-scrimmage and offenses are designed to do that which is different than ever before.

The irony of your post is that Bama would be undefeated and number 2 in the country IF they would commit to being the dominant run oriented offense of old, versus this thing yall have going on now.

If you would have lined up, limited turnovers, controlled the clock, and been physical you would have just worn em down and won by 6-10.

Football has not changed, for every pro to going fast there is a con for going fast, for every pro of going slow, there is a con.

The only part of your post that I agree with is the way rules are making the game unbearable. Every game that I watched, both college and pro was a terrible experience......ridiculous number of penalties.

Defense is finally looking up this year and once we get back to Alabama football with our offensive line dominates again, people won't be able to handle us and will look for a new edge.

OP is a weirdo but he's right. Football has taken a turn for the worse over the past 5 years. It was fine when these offensive schemes were on the fringe with Mike Leach, etc., but it sucks that it's becoming the norm. What makes football so fun to watch to me is that it's a balance between strategy/innovation and lining up and hitting the other guy in the mouth. How American is that?

Now it's turning into pussy shite in which teams with inferior resources and talent can not only mask it, but dominate teams with superior talent due to the exploitation of an inherent advantage with substitutions. I'm singling out A&M here, but they have no reason to base their philosophy around that because they have the resources to be a badass SEC football program, as douchey as that sounds. And I don't mean that as a troll. It's a shame.

Bama fans see the game passing them by and throw a tantrum.
