I think it's just a mix of Ellis being better and Ward being that much awful. Coupled with a talent dropoff, and in the case of last year, trying a new defensive scheme then ditching it after 2-3 games...Here you go.

Perfect storm of shitty things have led to this.
We had a good run of instate talent for awhile. Hell, 3 of our best players in Clowney, Gilmore, and Holloman all came from the same high school.

Any chance we'll see improvement throughout the year? I know that we'll see some improvement from year one to year two.
Also, how has BAW been playing?
