There is clearly a coaching issue.

South Carolina's players aren't as good as the 3 year 11 win period, but the results on defense are just RIDICULOUSLY bad.

They have the worst yards per play allowed in the SEC- 7.29 yards allowed per play, which is embarrassingly (a coach should resign level) bad.

Only 4 teams in all of CFB are allowing more yards per play:

Kansas - 7.38
SMU - 8.13
Idaho - 8.68
UTEP - 9.07

I don't think it's quite as bad as the numbers indicate. Carolina has played three power-five teams, unlike 95% of everybody else. That can skew those numbers some, not to say that we are good by any means, though.
