I believe it is because the in-state high school talent has been down for two or three years now. There just haven't been great defensive, or offensive players for that matter, like there were four or five years ago. We haven't been able to pick up the slack out of state.

So the high school level talent is on a down tick? That sounds like a possibility.

There is clearly a coaching issue.

South Carolina's players aren't as good as the 3 year 11 win period, but the results on defense are just RIDICULOUSLY bad.

They have the worst yards per play allowed in the SEC- 7.29 yards allowed per play, which is embarrassingly (a coach should resign level) bad.

Only 4 teams in all of CFB are allowing more yards per play:

Kansas - 7.38
SMU - 8.13
Idaho - 8.68
UTEP - 9.07
