I know. I have no idea. I don't pretend to know.

Who would even want to come here?

Charlie Strong is a realistic option if he is fired after the season. Gary Patterson is the unrealistic prayer.

But shite, I'd be alright with giving Shane Beamer a shot as head coach.

We're all pissed now because of the game, but this is still a good job. Spurrier showed what is actually possible here. Some of that "you can't win there" stigma is gone.

I don't think USC will have as hard of a time as UTK did after Dooley was fired. The program has been stable for a decade, has money, has massive infrastructure improvements, and is one of only a handful of high-profile jobs open in the off-season.

I like Beamer, but I have concern that he'd leave if VaTech calls when his dad retires. It's impossible to overlook how fortunate we are that Spurrier stayed here. I'd want a coach who saw this as a destination job. Beamer may not, but Strong probably would. For that reason, I'm not wholly against promoting Elliott; he and Mangus are the only guys on staff who consistently pull their own weight.

I also really like Fuente at Memphis, and Hudspeth at La-La.

That's exactly how I feel.
