I agree with most of that, population makeup stats, etc.
But, I'll also say this,,, when I was a kid, myself and all my buddies wanted to grow up and be a "Chinese Bandit"! We were hundreds of miles from Baton Rouge,, had never been to Tiger Stadium,, could barely pick up most games on AM Radio, and very much "dirt farm white boys",,, but wanted to be Tigers.
For sure in the outlying areas, that mentality needs to be taught, or even "force fed" more,, the idea of wanting to be a hog, etc. I didn't know about y'all's high school problems,, that's where a huge difference could be made. In La, of course there are parishes,, usually the Jr High schools that feed into a certain High School in that parish start running the system of the high school, ASAP,, so there is a possibility that a 7th grader is actually learning some of his future high school offense. A long time ago, the schools had semi district type games allowing earlier grades to play. For me, it started in the 5th grade, and continued on thru high school. Things don't change too much, as long as the Head Coach at the High School remains there and his system is not changed. In fact, I really didn't have to learn a new "system" from 5th grade,, until I was a freshman in college.. Even I was able to learn the plays in about 7-8 years.

the guy above me hit the nail on the head.
i said this in another thread and got blasted to kingdom come, but African Americans are leaving Arkansas en masse. Which is fine until you start talking about things like fielding a SEC football team.
I'm from little rock. My entire immediate family is from little rock. Of my entire family, only my mother and 15 year old sister still live in Arkansas (sherwood). My dad (St Louis), cousins (LA, St Louis, Kansas City, Dallas), brothers (Seattle), myself (North Jersey), step sister (Washington DC), aunts (Oakland, LA), uncle (LA) left the state as soon as humanly possible. My sister is hell bent on going to LSU when she is in college and my mom will leave to Dallas when my sister is old enough to leave the house. My best friends left the state (Dallas, Norfok VA).
the 64 thousand dollar question is why do all the black families that can leave, leave? These are the families that are more likely to be able to produce an African american kid that 1. is athletic enough and 2. smart enough to actually get into college. You can build all the fricking stadiums and gyms you want but you will never get the woman on welfare with 6 kids to get her oldest son to go to school and stay off the streets. I personally know at least 2 guys that were athletically good enough to play ball but just were on the streets.
I love Arkansas and always will but the state has an African american problem that needs to be addressed.
One of my cousins that lives in LA is mike jones who played ball for the hogs back in the early 2000's. He has a son now that instead of growing up bleeding hog red, will have no real ties to Arkansas or the razorbacks. And Mike is 6'9 and pretty fricking athletic. You want those kids to grow up in Arkansas or have some ties to Arkansas.
Instead what you get is in 15 years Richard Davenport written a "recruiting bits" article about a 6'6 SF in LA who has ties to Arkansas becuase his dad played for the hogs but will never seriously considering visiting lol

Your usual type of contribution.
Eta: take off your socks, that way you can not only feel the toes, but, also see them, to assist you in counting.

WWH,, not arguing, in fact agreeing,, but, iyo, why is that?
It's not that the athletes aren't here - they are just walking the halls because either a.) they are not interested b.) most sports have become full year sports. For example a lot of baseball players at our local school don't participate in football, same with basketball, or c.) they can't stay eligible.
There ought to be 3 or 4 high division 1 football players coming out of Jefferson county (Pine Bluff, Dollarway, White Hall, Watson Chapel) every year alone.

Quick Fact, Arkansas almost had the same minority population of other southern states until Detroit exploded in the 1940's. A whole lot of good hardworking families moved up north. It's common to find a family member or cousin from Arkansas living in MI. It was a smart move to leave the south for greener pastures especially during those times.
True. Interestingly I recently watched a documentary on St. Louis' worst housing project of the 1960s-1980s and they made this very observation - A lot of black southerners moved north looking for good paying jobs.
When those jobs started to get outsourced and eliminated from global competition, cities like St. Louis and Detroit and Chicago had huge populations of low-skilled minorities who had worked in car plants and in manufacturing at livable wages, suddenly unemployed with no skills to get a comparable` job. Pop left and welfare picked up the pieces.
Their children and grandchildren are the part of this generation that's gone to hell in a handbasket. Why? No jobs, no hope, absentee parenting. It cuts across all ethnicities, but is amplified in the inner cities across this country.

In a word, this phenomena is called urbanization
It is also probably the reason rural America is hurting. Even though cities have crime they also have brain gain, as opposed to the brain drain in rural areas
