If you know those big houses built near the horse park in the late 80's. 1 or 2 are Hatfield's and the other 2 are McCoy's. when they made money in coal they moved next door to each other and built massive homes.

Sadly, neither TLC or TCA are true to their roots but TLC is my favorite now. TCA has gone from a place by and for horsemen to a social place to eat and drink. I seem to have the touch getting folks into TLC but seem to be the kiss of death for the TCA which always humors me.

Belle Brezing (The Belle Watling in Gone With the Wind) had her house of ill repute a few blocks away from the current TLC. When she died they auctioned off the bricks 1 by 1 till the house was gone. Some made their way into the construction of the fireplace in TLC.

As for the Lafayette, I'm working on making sure that becomes something when LFUCG moves out, something other than a parking garage.

Interesting, I would be interested in seeing this building is restored and not torn down. Keep me posted.

Grits:

Love all the old Belle Breezing stuff. I know when they turned those row houses on Upper that were at one time one of her houses into the Transylvania softball locker rooms, they found a ton of great old stuff (i.e. old police badges). That's great that they used it in TLC. Makes me love that place even more.

Growing up, I would go to TCA with an old horse vet from Versaillles and his family. But yeah, my understanding is it became a big happy hour spot.

I'll let you know what I can about the Lafayette going forward.
