My guess is that Hampton and Tunsil were cleared simultaneously. But that Freeze is doing exactly what you suggest. That's the reason he's been giving the "I'm not involved, it's over my head, I haven't heard anything..." Then, he can say: "I just got the word late Friday that he's cleared to play."

It's beautiful from the standpoint of focusing the discussion on Ole Miss not Bama. And on the idea of: "Tunsil being available will be a huge boost!" narrative.

It helps with the team mentality. And, it also helps crush the spirit of the DE who lines up against him. Mentally, his head isn't in the game now. All he's thinking about is: Who will I be lined up against on Saturday?

Then when he sees that big beautiful bastard out there warming up, his heart will sink.

If it works, it's beautiful.

My guess is even if Freeze did that, Saban would have a few contacts in the NCAA that would alert him, or the Hampton thing would tip him off.

Not to be a negative nancy, but even if Tunsil plays, this is his first game back after an injury vs. TCU(what did he do, break his leg?) Hopefully he isn't rusty.
