Is it possible for A&M to look impressive this week?

After last year's season opener shellacking of South Carolina, a team many thought was going to win the East if not the SEC, many (A&M fans included) prematurely declared Texas A&M as world beaters. Enter 2015, it's a very similar situation heading into the opener. Analysts are picking A&M to be average and Arizona State to win the PAC-12 and go to the playoffs.
With last year still fresh in everyone's mind, is there anything A&M can do this Saturday to look like an impressive team this year? A 52-28 type win is not going to be enough as everyone is just going to point to last year.
So what will it take for A&M to look impressive in a win this week? Hold ASU under 21? Score 80+? Nothing?
This is an honest question, so I'll get this response out of the way: "Doesn't matter, A&M's not going to win"

All I know is that when our D inevitably shows improvement, Chavis will get no credit here, and it will be all about how the overall talent level on the D line is good enough that even Snyder would have looked better this year. There is no scenario , even a top 30 D, where Chavis gets even 1% credit on SECR. Know that going in.

If they win and it is anything other than the finish to the LSU vs. AU or OU vs. Oregon games in 2006, I think it will be impressive.

If they register a sack I'll be impressed

Not really. We beat EMU last year 65-0. I thought it showed promise that maybe Muschamp turned the corner. Then we played UK.
Unfortunately, it's just hard to take anything away from these games. Just hope nobody gets hurt playing a meaningless game.

If we destroy them, everyone will point to the South Carolina game last year. And anything less than that won't be impressive. So no, there really isn't a way

If Chavis can shut down their offense there will be a lot of hype coming your way. It's your biggest question mark going into the season. Maybe not if it's a low-scoring 21-17 type game (which would shock me). But if it's something like 27-7 yall are going to jump up the polls, maybe not as much as last year since ASU isn't as highly regarded as USCe last year in the preseason.

Y'all can look impressive and still not be a world beater of a team
Regardless of how your season went last year, the win at South Carolina and in the fashion it was done was impressive and looked impressive
Now if you ask if it's possible to tell if y'all will be contenders or pretenders by your performance in the first game...the answer is no

Just beat them and you will get plenty of credit nationally.

If you win in any fashion it would be pretty impressive. If you lose in any fashion it's going to give the entire country ammunition to say the pacS > secW

ASU is a slightly stronger opponent than Eastern Michigan IMO

Did you really just equate Arizona State to Eastern Michigan?

Yes. A&M arguably plays the best game of the week. Win big and have the defense look good, people will be impressed.
