Okay, here's how most Vandy fans feel about Mason:
1) Last year was a fricking train wreck of immeasurable proportions. Everything that could go wrong went wrong.
2) He made an amazingly bad hire in Karl Dorrell at OC, but he did have to try to assemble his first ever staff less than a month before NSD. As such, he went with familiar names. His S&C hire was equally as bad.
3) Mason made the correct decisions to jetison KD and the S&C coach then made great hires in Andy Ludwig and James Dobson.
4) Who was hotter as a DC than Derek Mason 2 years ago? Well, if he thinks Ludwig is capable of running the offense without too much oversight, why not do the job himself?
5) Most of us don't have a win total to determine whether he should stay or not. The expectation is 3-5 wins. For most of us, the most important part is that he shows leadership and the ability to competently handle the rigors of being a HC. The team needs to compete and show that they are moving in the right direction too.
