To show how close it is, Miss. State, who at one point was #1 last year, is not given much of a shot this year; ostensibly because they lost a lot. However, they do have Dak Prescott, which makes them a contender.
A&M will have offensive firepower, but will their defense be improved? If so, they too will contend for the title.
The other five are all legit contenders...

If I had to pick one team to crawl to the top it would be Auburn. I like the way their schedule lays out for them and if it comes down to the Iron Bowl for all the marbles they have a good shot.

As tough as the West is likely to be I could also easily see Auburn being very middle of the pack. Going to be an odd year.

I will, however, predict that the bottom couple of teams will likely find themselves in bowl games against direly over matched opponents and absolutely detonate them like Arkansas did to Texas.
