The SEC might be the best conference this year, but I think the gap is continuing to narrow.

Hands down the SEC is the best conference and its not that close. Now we haven't had the single best team lately.

It wasn't last year. The SEC was actually quite over-rated last year. However, most years it is, but not close to the level it use to be.

The game has changed dramatically the past 5 years due to head related rules changes. Football is far more offensive friendly now. QB play is far more important than it's ever been. The best high school QB's come out of California and Texas. The PAC12 is a very, very good conference now and was better than the SEC last year. We'll have to see about this year.

Had this discussion with a couple USCw fans yesterday. They obviously said the PAC 12 was the best because of the bowl record, but like I told them, you have to look at the matchups in the bowls, too. An 11th best sec team losing to a 6th best PAC 12 team doesn't mean the PAC 12 is better. I used to make a spreadsheet on this during bowl season, and its the same every year. Sec teams very rarely lose to other teams that are ranked lower in their conference, and regularly beat higher ranked teams.

How do you mean? Best as in toughest top to bottom? Then yes, I would agree with you. Everyone recognizes this as fact except Big whatever fans.

SEC is a far cry from the 2008- 2012 versions. In particular 2009, 2010 and 2011, but still the best by a small margin. QB play has gone down in recent years.
