Also, as proven many times before, Chavis doesn't require elite or even good TOP to have a good defense.
Hmm, that's not exactly how that thread went. The chart produced showed that as TOP increased, Chavis' defenses performances were better. Those things moved together. You have conflated necessary and sufficient to cloud up the argument.
That being said, Chavis doesn't benefit from high TOP disproportionately, but it is stupid to say that preventing the other team from being on offense doesn't help the defense.

No one has ever said that TOP doesn't matter to defensive statistics. The referenced thread was only meant to show that Chavis DOES have good defenses, even when he isn't helped by a good TOP. He's fielded top 10 defenses even when his team's TOP has been ranked nowhere near the top 10.
And that's not even getting into the chicken-and-egg question of whether the good TOP numbers have more to do with Chavis's defenses getting themselves off the field than his teams' offenses keeping them on the sidelines.
But back to the original topic, the hiring of Christensen is all the evidence you need of Sumlin's desire to run more effectively. Whether he wants to run more in terms of attempts remains to be seen, but at a minimum he knows that he needs to be able to run effectively when he wants to.
