quote:
Sumlin has said often in many interviews when asked about pass vs run that his offensive philosophy is to score as often and as fast as possible and he'll use whatever approach gets him that result vs the team he's facing at the moment.
That's what he's said. Outside of 2012, A&M has finished no better than 11th in attempts in the conference (if you count only conference games, they finished 13th both years in attempts). In 2012, they finished 4th, but they were buoyed by 201 attempts from the quarterback (I could not find a breakdown of designed runs to scrambles, if anyone has an article, I would be interested in reading it). If Johnny had ran half as much or approximated his attempts from 2013, they would have finished about the same in the conference. Obviously, though he ran/scrambled for what he ran for. Without a breakdown, the attempts number is stripped of much of its meaning.
The point is that Sumlin gives lip service to the run game but it has never been a big part of what he does in the SEC. It took a historic scrambler in 2012 to get to the 500 attempt mark.

You're wrong. Malena had 800+ yards in 2012.
Malena also had 150 rushing in the OM game which helped us win.
