You realize the Battle Flag was used throughout the Confederacy during the war, right?

And that Alabamians fought under it, including in the Army of Northern Virginia?

100% correct

What's commonly known as the "confederate flag" was popularized in the 1960s, and was flown as a stance against de-segregation.

It's way more related to racism and bigotry than it is relevant to the civil war/cultural heritage.
