Honest question: who still refers to Tech as 'VPI' and why do they stick with it?

Folks who attended VPI are generally not fond of being referred to Va Tech as it makes it sound more like La Tech or some directional school. It is mostly a courtesy thing to alumni saying you respect them and what they have accomplished.

Okay, gotcha. I haven't met many people who attended, so I didn't know that. Though they do share a conference with Georgia Tech, whose graduated don't mind, so it's a bit odd. Guess it's a holdover from before they joined the ACC.

Damn, to me (since I wasn't an adult when Georgia Tech was special) the most famous "Tech" school nationally is VPI. Aggies bitch about that beveled logo on ESPN but VPI fans watch games with a whole nomenclature they dislike. That sucks.

Then why does a certain fanbase get all pissy when you call them by the true name, API?
