Tangent here. Honest question: who still refers to Tech as 'VPI' and why do they stick with it? Is it just older people who remember them as Polytech or is there some particular reason some people go with that nomenclature? Just to be a bit more formal, maybe?

Folks who attended VPI are generally not fond of being referred to Va Tech as it makes it sound more like La Tech or some directional school. It is mostly a courtesy thing to alumni saying you respect them and what they have accomplished.
