Vanderbilt is a private institution. Tennessee is the State funded University.
Vandy has less than a third of of the students Tennessee does. There are more bama fans in Nashville than Vandy.

It is about the SEC, and athletics is a part of that but research revenue is about 10 times the revenue source of athletics.
