The state of spelling in the various states...

How do you spell...?
For quick reference, the most commonly Googled word spellings in SEC states:
Arkansas: diarrhea (I don't even want to know)
Alabama: resume (the lack of diacritical marks means there's no way to tell whether they're asking for a a CV or permission to continue plowing their sisters)
Florida: grey
Georgia: pneumonia
Kentucky: jealous
Louisiana: Paran (er...what the frick is a 'paran'?)
Mississippi: niece (unlike Alabama, my home state is branching out to new forms of incest, so I'm feeling proud)
Missouri: maintenance
South Carolina: resume (c.f. Alabama)
Tennessee: pneumonia
Texas: beautiful
At least, unlike the Okies, we know how to spell hors d'oeuvres. Or maybe we just call them 'fingah food' and leave it at that. Either way, it's all good. Also, while it's obvious what Wisconsin wants with "Chiwawa", I'm not clear on what Utah is looking for with "awnry".

I can't imagine the kind of fury Bert unleashes on those poor toilets.
But really, I think everyone has one run-of-the-mill word that trips them up for whatever reason. For a lot of people it's February or Wednesday. I have no idea why but the word I frick up the most is restaurant. No idea why, but it trips me up every now and again.

Occasion always fricks me up. I want to add an extra s.

It's the best Po Boy joint in Metairie. Prime Rib po boy, FTMFW.

I'm with Missouri on this one. That word just begs for an ence ending rather than an ance.

diarrhea is a difficult word to spell. Where does the 'h' go? The rest of those I don't need auto-correct for.

I've read this somewhere, or maybe I was planning to read it, I don't know.
Regardless, resume, I've got to go work on my resume.
