I know you're just trolling the Bama fans (poorly, it seems),

Agreed.

the most self-loathing fanbase here appears to be LSU by a rather sizable margin. No surprise, given this site originated with and is dominated by the LSU fanbase. But I knew plenty of LSU fans while growing up in Mississippi and they were never as high-strung, defensive, and self-loathing as LSU fans nowadays appear to be. I think the growth of the Internet

LSU fans have always been this way. They were probably worse back in the day. You already pointed out why it appears more prevalent nowadays.

the Internet has made a large portion of your fanbase insecure thanks simply because y'all are actually starting to see how the rest of the college sports world looks at y'all, and how y'all are measured against other programs.

LSU fans welcome any comparisons/measurements to any college program in the country.

There are very few college programs that have had more success in the three sports that are most important to the vast majority of LSU fans.

The thing that always goes missing around here by people from outside of the state of La. is the fact that LSU fans/La. residents by nature are more passionate and combative than our redneck cousins from around the SEC. This causes them to use words like self-loathing as if it will shame us into changing. It ain't happening.

Hey, my Cajun cousins had all my love even when they were getting into knock-down drag-out fights over the silliest things, mainly because once they were done, they were done. They could be accusing their opponents of crimes against humanity, against nature, and against God 'Imself one second, then decide they'd said all that needed to be said and hugged it out the next. Oddly enough, that entire branch of my kinfolks were, with the exception of a couple Tulane fans, Ole Miss fans to the bone. Even my cousin Larry, who actually attended LSU and became an extremely successful in the oil and minerals business.

Anyway, yeah, LSU compares favorably in the Big Three as a whole. Not even sure who else in the SEC -- UF, I'd say -- could claim as much aggregate success across those sports. It's just a bit weird to me, having grown up with plenty of LSU fans that were pretty mellow about their sports, to go onto Tiger Droppings sometimes and see such massive amounts of infighting and Negatigering. Negatigeration? Negatigerection?
