Barnhart was one of four selected in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, along with Chris Del Conte of TCU, Warde Manuel of Connecticut and Ian McCaw of Baylor. They will receive their honors on June 17 at the annual NACDA awards luncheon in Orlando, Fla.
“Under the steady and successful leadership of Mitch Barnhart, the University of Kentucky athletics program is reaching extraordinary levels of success across its 22 varsity programs,” said President Eli Capilouto. “For 13 years, his integrity and talent have empowered our staff, coaches and student-athletes to succeed on the field, in the classroom and across the communities they serve. Having recently reached his ambitious set of goals for the department, Mitch continues to inspire our program to reach even higher, while supporting in creative and impactful ways the academic mission of the University.”

UK Athletics has enjoyed comprehensive growth since Barnhart’s arrival in 2002. Eighteen of UK's 22 varsity teams contributed to the 2014 school-record Directors' Cup finish, with seven finishing in the top 10 of their respective sports.
Barnhart has helped pave the way for UK's ascendance as an athletics department by innovatively pursuing facility improvements. In September, UK will play the grand-opening game in The New CWS following a $120 million project made possible by an unprecedented partnership with its university partner. The football program also will have a new $45 million practice facility in 2016, adding to a list of new facilities completed in the last two years that includes new softball and soccer stadiums, a new track and a new golf complex.

Don't UK fans hate him? I'll give him this though, the renovations to the football stadium are a perfect plan for a program like UK. Take away seats that aren't needed and improve the overall stadium and experience.

Sensible Kentucky fans don't. Wildcat Mike isn't sensible.

I know a few who do on message boards(Rupp Rafters), but I think he's liked by most fans. A few people don't give him credit for the Calipari and Stoops hirings due to different reasons.

Why is she speaking? Did someone erroneously ask for her opinion?

Oops. I know there's a Kentucky fan on here who hates him. I thought it was you.

Seems that "shut up catfan" is actually warranted.

I don't hate him, but I'm not a huge fan or anything. My feelings about Barnhart resemble my feelings about computer paper: it's there, it's necessary, I can't be bothered to worry about it.

He has his pros and cons. He's done well recognizing his shortcomings in a coaching search after the Gillispie hire and he's really pushed the success of the athletic program outside of football and basketball (that's his biggest strength IMO). He hired Stoops and hired Cal, even if he had assistance in doing so (he's still the guy who brought guys like Pratt and Couch into the fold to help out). He's ushered in some big improvements to athletic facilities across campus.
A couple of years ago I wasn't real thrilled with him, but he's really rebounded well. My only big issue with him is improvements to baseball should've been a priority over some other programs.

Baseball stadium is coming. They are getting the football complex going before they break ground next door for the new diamond.

Talk to me about the new baseball field. I like the cliff in its current iteration. I'm not thrilled with the idea of the baseball stadium being out on Alumni.

When is "shut up catfan" not warranted?

The reality is for baseball that the team is good enough at this point that they could sooner rather than later have a shot at hosting. And the better the stadium, the better your chance is at hosting if it's between you and some other non-SEC schools. Cliff is pretty far down the list in conference in baseball stadiums and there's so much potential there for the program with better facilities.

What are the odds that they continue to let me booze in the outfield?

New stadium will be next to the soccer and softball facility along Alumni Dr. Yes, plans are for another Party Deck out in right field fence.
