Why should everyone be allowed to vote?

I get that we are all created equal. Black, white, yellow, red, we are all born equals, but we do not develop equally. Some people are better than other people. Why does the repeated convicted felons, sex offenders, drug abusing welfare leaches, and illiterate people's vote count the same as the every day citizen who actually benefits society in one way or the other?
How can someone who cannot even read the ballot be allowed to vote and count as much as a successful, educated man? Does it not make sense that the educated and successful people in society would be capable of voting in the best person to lead our country?
Being able to vote should be a privilege and not a right.

repeated convicted felons,
Uh since when can convicted felons vote. As one I can tell you we can't, the only way a convicted felon can vote is if they petition the court to restore their rights and that rarely happens. Plus you have to wait a minimum of 7 years before you can petition.

Are there any states where they can vote?
I'd take it a few steps further and give people simple science and math tests before they can vote. If you can't solve a system of two-variable linear equations, you're too dumb to vote. If you don't know that the primary source of the Sun's energy is the fusion of hydrogen, you're too dumb to vote. 90% of American voters would fail.

I think people should have to pass a citizenship test to vote. Naturalized citizens have to do it, and the ones I know covet their rights and voting much more than most people.

They shouldn't
There absolutely should be a basic measure of aptitude for voting. We make people pass a test to drive and that is much easier than making an informed political decision.

You should have to have an ID, pay some sort of income or property taxes and have at LEAST a high school diploma or equivalent.
The system was intentionally built to handle a few idiots in the general public, so anymore than above is kind of too much, imo.

Dogmatically trained, you mean.

That defeats the purpose.

You should be asking these -- why do two parties control the entire election process. They in fact own the organization that runs the debates.
Why are really rich people and huge corporations deciding who we can choose from?
Since these same rich people and corporations own the media, why should I believe anything they tell us?
I'll stop there.

Male property owners only.

If you receive government assistance in any way, it should forfeit your eligibility to vote. Let's call it common sense.

Everybody should be allowed to vote but, votes should be given out in merit fashion due to economic standing, volunteer service as an example.
Nancy who owns a business and contributes time and resources in her community should hold more votes than Tyrone who doesn't work and plays domino's all day on the public dole.

It should be a right that is earned by activity. My grandfather suggested after high school for a year or 2 every american should have to earn the right to vote by doing one of these 3 things to encourage better citizenship.
#1 Serve in the US military (not just reserve but boot camp then duty around the US and world)
OR
#2 Peace Corps or similar equivalent where you must spend a year or 2 overseas seeing how the rest of the world lives and some of the most crisis places in need of volunteer aid
OR
#3 Peace Corps equivalent in the US where kids would help inner city issues or possibly work in impoverished rural areas or possibly native reservations in rebuilding the bottom end of the american life
I like that Mormons have to serve 2 years in mission work but as the US protects independent religious freedom it should not encourage any single faith with such a program.

That's a nice theory, but I'd say it's full of holes. Being well educated doesn't mean you can predict the future, i.e. who is going to lead our country best, and all of the candidates say the same shite so you can't really differentiate them up front.

Take away my right to vote? Fine. But don't ask me to pay taxes or be bound by the laws of a nation that denies me a say so in these affairs. I get to live tax-free, outside the law.

Waka Flaka Flame was going to run for president this year except he does not meet the age requirement.
This terrifies me. I guarantee you the majority of high school and college kids would vote for him out of humor but this is not good. Any crazy celebrity could run and have the idiot youth vote for him

To vote you should have to meet the following:
1. Be at least a high school graduate and over age 18.
2. Either be employed (taxpayer) or a land owner or if over age 65 you were employed at least 20 years.
3. Photo ID should be required.
4. Convicted felons should not be allowed to vote.
Being convicted of attempting to circumvent these rules should land you in prison for 20 years-no parole. Voting is the most important thing we as Americans have.

Being able to vote should be a privilege and not a right.
It seems like at a certain point, all pseudo-intellectuals reach this conclusion. And it's equally as stupid every time it gets presented. Just because someone is smart, that doesn't mean they are going to vote in any less of a utilitarian way, or that voting in our two party system takes any discernible amount of intelligence. People protect their own self interest, and that's the reason voting should ALWAYS be a right.

No where in the constitution does it say that voting is a right.
Before anyone claims otherwise, you should look at the actual text. You cannot be excluded from voting because of race/gender, etc. But no where does it explicitly say "you have the right to vote". This is different. As long as voting is not extended to everyone, it doesn't have to be extended to anyone.

Who honestly can't read and write in today's society? No matter how poor the school system is, everyone has at least a 5th grade education.

Welfare recipients shouldn't be allowed to vote. They work for us and we the taxpayers are their employers, and they provide no service to show for it. I'd go a step further and strip all their rights but free speech and right to a fair trial. We should tell them where to eat, what they can ingest, not allow them any type of luxery, and if they have a kid on the taxpayers dime, then they'd be sterilized.
