Oxford resembles life outside of Mississippi. Starkville exemplifies life within Mississippi. Also it's not about having the same amenities. It's about the quality of those amenities. Oxford is the only place in Mississippi where an intelligent cultured person can escape the uneducated redneck peasants that make Mississippi a horrible place to live.

Wait a minute, are you saying there are places to eat good food in Starkville? Because the panel didn't mention there being anything to do. Now, I figure that they (panel) must be talking about something other than dining out or drinking. So if you know, please oblige me. What's missing?

Fayeteville is a 10-15 hour drive for most of us. Most of us aren't renting private jets to go to road games. Maybe that makes us poors.

Damn I didn't realize it was that big of a drive. That is definitely a pretty good haul.

Fayeteville is just as far for me as a Mizzou or aTm trip, 650 to 700 miles.

I mean, the Tuscaloosa vs. Auburn discussion is almost literally the exact same discussion I have with people at work about Woodstock vs Decatur. All the same phraseology.

We are an hour and a half from an international airport.

Flying somewhere then driving an hour and a half is the definition of inconvenient.

See, exactly my point. Scary Tuscaloosa is like the all black murder city, you might get shot if you go there!

I'm joking dude.

But yes, when we were both younger that dynamic was more common and more accurate. Auburn was leave it to beaver country college town, Tuscaloosa was more gritty, urban and crime-ridden.

Auburn is bigger and less quaint now and Tuscaloosa is less ghetto now. But acting like Tuscaloosa is some cultural authentic mecca and Auburn is a suburban upstart just doesn't make any sense to me.

Yeah just a small bar that only does shots where you can get in and take a few and get out pretty fast. I bet that would do well on the square

Like ones on Bourbon Street? Hell yeah that would do well in Oxford, I feel. We do have a daiquiri bar in Oxford, Funky's, for the record.

The only issue is the strict liquor laws: no outside drinks taken in, no inside drinks taken out, dickhole cops patrolling all the time. With a bar known for a quick shot or two before leaving, I imagine OPD would hang out and cause some trouble.

I am just saying, we are an hour and a half from a flight almost anywhere in the world. Most of the SEC can't say that, so we aren't in the boonies or something.

And both were overdone sterotypes, as those things always are.

Oh no, I'd actually probably argue Auburn is more "intellectual" solely because a larger chunk of the population is either a student or professor or in some capacity works in relation to the University. I think most of those "county salaries", "county education levels", etc studies show that. I'm not arguing that one is more "cultured" than the other, I just personally prefer (as a place to live, as a college kid it wouldn't matter) a place like Tuscaloosa with roots and stories outside of the University connection than Auburn. And I'm sure an Auburn man or woman would love to be in Auburn more for different reasons. Same as I prefer some of the in-town areas of Atlanta that a little bit grittier than some of the Northern Suburbs.

When I said different strokes for different folks I really did mean it.
