It always seems like mid season before a Mizzou game is on TV.

That's because they have a history of playing 4 cupcakes followed by a bye week before they actually play anyone. I think that hurts them immensely in terms of respect/gaining media steam and/or hype during the season. The first 4-5 weeks are typically when teams start to show their identity and capture the media's attention but no one really cares if you beat the hell out of a cupcake. And it's easy to forget all about them when they often don't play a game anyone will watch until week 5 or 6.

Mizzou has also yet to beat an SEC team with a winning conference record and that hurts as well even though it's not their fault that a lot of SEC teams on their schedule have been down. And I firmly believe the media would be more prone to show some love if Mizzou's brand was more established.

Finally, they need a MUCH better PR guy. A team with a similar record would get a hell of a lot more respect in my opinion and a good PR guy can change perceptions. For a university that has a great journalism school, Mizzou isn't good at promoting its accomplishments on the gridiron.
