Mods feel free to delete my too quick on the draw clicking in the other thread I started. Also feel free feel to OT if necessary but I feel like more folks will see it here. Kinda SEC because students are often taken there to see what a Greek Orthodox Church and that includes student-athletes looks like operates.

But recently, Saint George's Greek Orthodox Church burnt to the ground. It's been in Knoxville for many, many decades and is a major part of he community. They open their doors every year for Greek Fest and it's a highlight from many outsiders. Personally, I've been to services several times tho I'm not Greek Orthodox.

The fire happened on Greek Orthodox Easter which is just a kick to the gut and here's what it looks like inside:

What's not pictured are the Italian tiles, Amazing Frescoes, irreplaceable icons and of course the amazing fresco/dome they had. It will take a lot to get it back to normal and replacing some things will be costly but as they always are. Every little bit will help and if you have even a 5 bucks please consider this - they are a worthy cause and a minority in the region despite being here going on 40 years.

Like I said I'm not a parishioner but these are amazing folks and no one deserves to have this happen on Easter. It's painful to know that some religious artifacts have been lost.

If you can help at all please do. 1 dollar, 5, up into the k's all help.

I RA'd for a sticky.

If it were just for a day or two it'd be a good thing to do.

Man that's horrible. I went to a couple of Greek Festivals there. The church was really neat (and I loved the food obviously).

A couple things:

-So sorry to hear and see this. Best wishes for all involved.

-Downvotes dont mean shite.

-maybe put on OT lounge (not sec ot). Those clowns really are good people as well and come together when something matters more then what a girls arse looks like after she gained 10 pounds

-be prepared for a whack. religion threads dont usually fly on td.com because of the controversy it brings. Not everyone thinks saban is god and bama football is the second coming.

I have been there a handful of times...it was an incredible building. Religion/Denomination aside...it is a shame to see such an awesome display of craftsmanship go up in flames.

I was sorry to hear about the fire, and hope that they are able to rebuild.

I have pulled some other images of this awesome structure.
