Portis and Qualls both have done much to dis-spell the stigma and lies on the recruiting trail that:

Anderson's system doesn't prepare big men for the NBA.

That you can't be a star in Anderson's system (terms of PPG, national recognition, etc)

Anderson's system is one for only role players (no development).

You have to "wait your turn" ie no early playing time.

Portis was the fasted player to 1000 points in Arkansas's rich history (IIRC).

Both as well as others have shown that many of the knocks against Anderson's staff and system are simply not true (he is also kin to neither of them).

This will pay dividends on the recruiting trail, however, it doesn't mean the staff will recruit the player(s) the fans think they should, or get those same recruits. The staff values potential, hunger/want to get better, attitude, etc over stars.

We have a football coach with a similar approach to recruiting the fans adore for this strategy, basketball? Not so much.

But then we also have a baseball coach who goes out and signs the big stars before they go pro in the following months and the fans love him for this and the mediocrity he brings.

MA hasn't proven anything yet and has accomplished the equivalent of winning a baseball regional.

What has DVH done to make normally rational fans dislike him?

Must be something personal because based on accomplishments for the U of A as a HC, any attempt at comparison is comical.
